Housed in the Palace Gardens, Bangalore Palace is located at the heart of Bangalore city centre. It was built in 1887 by the Wodeyar dynasty and known for its exotic wood carvings and Tudor-style architecture. This palace is similar to the medieval castles of Normandy and England. It is said that when King Chamaraja Wodeyar of Wodeyar dynasty visited England, the Tudor style of architecture fascinated him and so he built this Bangalore palace in this architecture style.
The beautiful gardens once added extra charm to the palace, now the palace hasn’t failed to attract the eye of the tourist. The main features of the palace are Fortified towers, Gothic windows, battlements and turrets. Its wooden carvings and paintings are remarkable. Now the palace is a venue for various exhibitions, concerts and cultural programs.

The open square of the ground floor has granite seats that are beautified with fluorescent blue ceramic tiles. At the ballroom the private parties of the kings were held earlier. The first floor houses the Durbar hall which was the assembly centre of the kings. The colossal elephant head adorned with paintings are located on the hall.
The inner halls of the palace are adorned with paintings of the 19th century. One will see here various classic paintings of the great painter Raja Ravi Varma. One of the main attractions of the hall worth mentioning is a dining table of the Diwan of Mysore, Sir Mirza Ismail.
