Sri Gavi Gangadhareshwara Temple is said to have been cut from a rock around the 9th century. This temple was later restored by the founder of Bangalore, Kempe Gowda. The deity worshipped in this temple is Lord Shiva. It is located at Gavipuram-Guttahalli, which is 3 kilometers away from the City Market.
An image of Agni, the Hindu God of Fire is also found in this temple. The other deity is Lord Ganapati with 12 hands. The four monolith pillars stand for Damaru, Thrishula and two fans.

Sri Gavi Gangadhareshwara Temple is a natural monolith rock formation, and devotees from all over the city visit this temple. On the sacred day of Makar Sankranti, devotees visit this temple to witness a religious belief. On this day, the rays of SUN passing through the two horns of Nandi fall on the Shiva Linga. It is for duration of one hour.
