The Bull temple of Bangalore located at Basavanagudi is an emblem of Dravidian style of architecture. This temple is dedicated to Nandi Bull, the seat of Lord Shiva. Kempe Gowda, the founder of Bangalore built this temple during his time and now it attracts a large number of devotees.
A huge idol of Nandi Bull is inside the temple and this idol is carved out of a single rock. A small iron plate is placed on its head. The other deities of the temples are the idols of God Surya and Goddess Chandra.

Legend says this bull temple was built to quite down a bull who eats and destroys the groundnuts and peanuts cultivation of this area. The bull stops his atrocity after the temple was constructed. The farmers of the area celebrate a Groundnut Fair (Kadalekai Parase) to celebrate their cultivation. It is still a part of the social life and people from all over the Bangalore city visit this temple during this festival time.
