Kolar Gold Fields are also an attraction for the tourist though it is closed in 2003 for reduction of golds and hiking costs. It is located at a distance of 120 kilometers from Bangalore. Kolar gold fields were the second deepest mines of gold in the world.
To visit the Kolar Gold Fields one must have to take prior permission from the Secretary, Kolar Gold Mining Undertaking, K.G.F.

Legend Behind Kolar Gold Fields
Legend says, Lord Rama while on exile with his wife Sita and brother Lakhmana took shelter in Avani village which is about 10 miles from the gold fields. One day, sister of Ravana, Surparnakha expressed her love to Rama first and then Lakshmana and also asked to marry her. Lakshmana cut off her nose to ward off her. Ravana got angry with the misdemeanor done to his sister. Ravana did send Maricha in pseudo of a golden deer to entice Lord Rama and Lakshmana. The golden deer was killed by Rama and the remains of the deer spread to a large area. These remains are said to be believed the golds of Kola fields.
